Server

Veilamp Server.

A hardened systemd service with its own user and config file. Run your library on a NAS, home server or VPS and stream privately to friends around the clock โ€” no desktop required.

Hardened systemd service

Installs a locked-down systemd unit so your library stays online across reboots, with sensible resource and permission limits out of the box.

Dedicated user & config

Runs as its own unprivileged user with a single config file โ€” no desktop session, no login, nothing extra to babysit.

Private P2P streaming

The same friends-only Veilid streaming as the desktop app, now always-on from a NAS, home server or VPS.

x86_64 and ARM64

Native builds for both architectures as .deb, .rpm and Arch packages, so it runs on a Raspberry Pi just as well as a cloud box.

Download the server

Direct packages for every supported distro and architecture. Each link always fetches the latest release.

.deb Debian / Ubuntu
.rpm Fedora / RHEL
.pkg.tar.zst Arch Linux

Linux repositories

Or install from the signed repo.

The server ships in the same GPG-signed repositories as the desktop app โ€” just install the veilamp-server package and it updates with the rest of your system.

Debian & Ubuntu

curl -fsSL https://veilamp.com/veilamp-archive-keyring.asc | sudo tee /etc/apt/keyrings/veilamp.asc > /dev/null
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/veilamp.asc] https://veilamp.com/apt stable main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/veilamp.list
sudo apt update && sudo apt install veilamp-server

Fedora & RHEL

sudo curl -fsSL https://veilamp.com/veilamp.repo -o /etc/yum.repos.d/veilamp.repo
sudo dnf install veilamp-server

Both repositories are GPG-signed with the Veilamp archive key.

Quick start

Streaming in a few minutes.

The package does the heavy lifting โ€” an auto-started, hardened systemd service and a single config file. From a fresh install you're five short steps from streaming your library.

  1. 1

    Install it

Add the repo above, or grab the .deb / .rpm / Arch package. It installs the binary, a hardened veilamp-server.service (auto-started), a config file at /etc/veilamp-server/server.env, and a /var/lib/veilamp-server data dir โ€” all run by a dedicated veilamp user.

    sudo apt install veilamp-server
  2. 2

Add your music & point the server at it

The service runs with ProtectHome on, so keep your library outside /home โ€” under /var/lib/veilamp-server/music, /srv or /mnt.

    sudo cp -r ~/Music/* /var/lib/veilamp-server/music/
    sudo chown -R veilamp:veilamp /var/lib/veilamp-server/music
    sudoedit /etc/veilamp-server/server.env # set VEILAMP_MUSIC_DIRS (+ optional token/name)
    sudo systemctl restart veilamp-server
  3. 3

    Confirm it's live

    systemctl status veilamp-server
    curl http://localhost:5177/health      # -> ok
  4. 4

    Connect from the app

Open the desktop app's Server tab. Your server appears under On your network via mDNS โ€” click to connect (enter the token if you set one). It's saved for one-click reconnects.

  5. 5

    Stream off-LAN (optional)

Turn on Veilid and sharing, then hand the VLSRV1-โ€ฆ code to a friend โ€” they paste it into Server โ†’ "Connect with code" and stream your whole library from anywhere. Rotate it any time to revoke.

    sudoedit /etc/veilamp-server/server.env # VEILAMP_VEILID=on and VEILAMP_SHARE=on
    sudo systemctl restart veilamp-server
    curl http://localhost:5177/share-code     # -> {"enabled":true,"code":"VLSRV1-..."}
