veilamp 0.3.7
New
- Play history — the queue panel has a new History tab showing everything you’ve actually heard, from any source (your library, LAN servers, friends, radio, podcasts, CDs), newest first and kept across restarts (last 200). Double-click or hit play on any entry to hear it again, then Next carries on with your queue.
- Previous goes back to what you actually heard — the Previous button, media keys, and MPRIS now return to the track you were really listening to before, even after starting a new album or jumping around the queue. Press it again to keep stepping back. (More than 3 seconds in, it still restarts the current track.)
- Import classic Winamp skins — Settings → Appearance now has an “Import Winamp .wsz…” button that installs classic Winamp 2.x skins: authentic main window stacked over the playlist, working transport, seek, volume, shuffle/repeat, playlist controls, the skin’s own bitmap font and playlist colors, and its equalizer window wired to veilamp’s EQ. Grab skins from the Winamp Skin Museum (skins.webamp.org). (Modern
.walskins aren’t supported.) - Sharp Winamp skins on any display — imported skins now scale in whole steps (1× to 4×) so every pixel is the same size on screen, no more uneven doubling. Choose the size under Settings → Appearance → Display.
- Max Headroom visualizer — a new “Max” mode: glitching, cackling Max Headroom footage synced to the music over a neon perspective grid, all inside a retro CRT television frame with scanlines, channel splits, and beat-driven cuts.
- Hyperspace visualizer — a new mode with a full “jump to lightspeed” lifecycle: a calm starfield when idle, stars stretching into streaks as a track starts, a swirling WebGL light-tunnel that tracks the tempo during the song, and a reverse drop back to the starfield timed to the track’s end.
- Scrobble internet radio — radio listens now scrobble to ListenBrainz and Last.fm, read from the stream’s “Artist – Title” info. On by default; toggle it in Settings → Scrobbling.
- Visualizer mode is remembered across restarts.
- Browse your library by date added — sort and filter by when tracks, albums, and artists were added (great for a “recently added” view), available in the app and over the HTTP API.
- More for plugin authors and modders — plugins can read live now-playing metadata (title, artist, album, length, play time, and cover art) across every source, and jump the Library straight to a specific artist or album.
Fixed & improved
- Reorder your queue by dragging on Windows and touch screens — drag now works where it previously didn’t; a line shows where the row will land, and the list auto-scrolls near the edges.
- Big libraries stay smooth — fast-scrolling thousands of tracks, albums, or artists no longer blanks the view or snaps you back to the top.
- Rescans and rips update immediately — new track lengths, tags, and gain values now appear right away instead of after a restart.
- Ripped CDs show track lengths — the ripper now writes length and checksum into each file, and the scanner fills them in for older rips on rescan. - Your music folders are visible and durable — Settings → Library now lists remembered folders with Add, Rescan, and remove controls, and a folder sticks even if you quit mid-scan.
- Friends reconnect in seconds, not minutes — veilamp republishes its network route the moment one drops, instead of waiting for the next scheduled refresh, and no longer leaks old routes after a crash or force-quit.
- Removing a track truly unshares it — with “Share all tracks” on, removing something from your library now also takes it away from friends who could still stream it.
- People you’ve removed stop seeing you online — removed or declined friends (and revoked share codes) now show you offline shortly after.
- Seeking a remote track no longer freezes the window — seeking a friend/server stream now happens in the background, so the UI stays responsive on slow links.
- Plugin panels work on every built-in skin — Classic, Circular, Sci-Fi, Neonwave, and LCARS all gained a launcher button to open plugin panels (and LCARS can now reach Settings).
- Idle visualizer plugins no longer burn CPU — enabled-but-not-selected visualizers are skipped until they’re actually on screen.
- Library multi-select stays put — selecting tracks for a bulk album/artist edit no longer clears itself.
- Various smaller fixes: skin/layout choices restored correctly on startup, cleaner now-playing data on track changes, and more reliable friend lookups.
